I’m always on the look out for a product line of breast pumps that provides comfort, portability, effectiveness and value for my patients. Hygeia is a new breastpump product line that I’m currently testing. I’m very impressed so far… It is a true piston pump much like the medical grade pumps that are rented. It is very gentle to use, light weight and has a bacterial static filter that prevents moisture and germs from entering the pump motor. It also has a internal rechargeable battery. The pump has a 3 YEAR, yes 3 YEAR Warranty! In addition, Hygeia offers a “total compatibility guarantee” to ensure your complete satisfaction for 21 days after the pump is purchased. No other company does this… In addition, the company is making this product available for sale only at facilities that can provide instruction and support. Yeah! Imagine being able to talk with one of our lactation consultants or educated staff members about your pumping needs at no additional charge and getting the information you need.
I’ve shown it to many of the mothers that have come to our center that had already purchased a pump. They really liked it! I’ve tested it on one mother so far and that was currently using a Medela Symphony to help increase her milk production. Her impressions were ” I like the color combo and the fact that it was light weight and had the rechargeable battery. It felt very smooth and she liked the option to increase the cycling and the vacuum pressure as needed. She didn’t like the noise that the valve was making… (I’ve been told by the Hygeia rep. that this has been fixed and is sending me some new vales to try.) The mother concluded that because of her marginal milk supply that the medical grade pump was the better choice for her situation and I agreed. I need two mothers to test the pumps out for me with the new valves and give me your honest feedback. If you live in the Northern Virginia area and are interested in participating in the test, please contact us at (703) 425-2229 or (703) 352-4932
The one consideration I have about the pump is that the breast shield size only comes in 27mm. I’m told that a wider selection of sizes are in production. For those of you that know me, I take my mothers’ milk supplies very seriously and would never endorse a product that I didn’t feel was worthy… Stay tuned for more information about Hygeia.
